Punjab: Migrant worker hung upside down, beaten to death
The labourer's widow says that he was beaten mercilessly and was thrown on the road.
A migrant labourer in Punjab was brutally beaten to death even as onlookers continued to smile and abused him, reports a leading daily. A leaked video of 34 minutes shows the man hung from a pulley being bashed up with iron pipes. The migrant has been identified as Ram Singh. He succumbed to his injuries later.
According Singh's widow, her husband who worked at a foundry at Focal Point was accused of theft at his workplace. "Some people even came to our house and threatened my husband," she said.
She said that a few people forcibly took her husband from their Khankot village home in a car. She says that he was beaten mercilessly and was thrown on the road. " His body was recovered from T Point at Mehta Road," she added.
A Khankot resident corroborates the widow's claim. "We are horrified by the incident and want strict action against those responsible for his death," said the local said.
The police said that a case has been booked under section 302, 365 and 34 IPC against main accused Jaspreet Singh and two unidentified persons.All the accused are absconding.
