All the leaders of the Punjab Congress are angry with the selection of Sidhu as President and four new working presidents.
Chandigarh: In another twist to the political situation in Punjab, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has called a meeting of all the MPs and MLAs of the state, which will be held during lunch in Chandigarh on Wednesday. This meeting is taking place after Navjot Singh Sidhu was made the Punjab Congress President.
According to sources cited by Zee News, all MPs and MLAs of Punjab Congress will attend this meeting except Navjot Singh Sidhu, who has not been invited. Notably, all the leaders of the Punjab Congress are angry with the selection of Sidhu as President and four new working presidents.
It is being said that after Navjot Singh Sidhu was made the President of Punjab Congress, the ruckus in the party is over. However, in the meantime, Amarinder Singh's wife's displeasure is coming to the fore as she met Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
It is being said that the conversation between Rahul Gandhi and Preneet Kaur lasted for about 20 minutes. During this, Parineet Kaur was constantly questioning Rahul and the latter was trying to convince her. The two kept talking during the entire time when the speaker was reading the condolence message in the Lok Sabha.
On Sunday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi appointed Navjot Singh Sidhu as the new president of the party's Punjab unit, notwithstanding the opposition from Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. Sidhu's appointment came after months of infighting in the state unit as the former cricket had openly rebelled against Captain Amarinder Singh's government over several issues.
Besides Sidhu, Gandhi also appointed four working presidents to assist Sidhu in the run-up to the next assembly elections. The new working presidents are Sangat Singh Gilzian, Sukhwinder Singh Danny, Pawan Goel and Kuljit Singh Nagra.
Nagra, who was in charge of party affairs in Sikkim, Nagaland, and Tripura, has been relieved of his present responsibilities.
The decision came after rounds of meetings between Congress high command with Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sindhu.
