A 12-year-old minor girl died in a hospital in Pune after she along with another minor girl were gang-raped three days back by two persons.

The incident of gang-rape had taken place near Hinjewadi area on Sunday after which both the girls were taken to the hospital. One of the girls slipped into a coma and lost her life late night on Wednesday. Hinjewadi police have already arrested two persons in connection with the incident including a 22-year youth identified as Ganesh Nikam and a minor. "The girls had gone to a temple on Sunday where the two men approached them. Promising them to give chocolates, the men took them to a secluded place and gang-raped them," Inspector Shivaji Gaware, in charge of Hinjewadi police station, said.

According to police, after gang raping the girls, two men threatened them of dire consequences if they speak about the incident. "The girls after coming home were scared and did not speak about the incident. However, one of the girls' health started deteriorating and she had to be admitted in a hospital," Gaware said.

After the doctors found that the girl was sexually assaulted, the police were informed. When the team of Hinjewadi police visited the hospital, they could not record her statement as she was not in a condition to give a statement. The police, however, came to know that there was another girl with her when the incident took place.

The police then approached the other girl who narrated the incident after which both the persons were arrested. Police booked them under section 376 (d) for gang rape, 366 for the abduction and other relevant sections of Indian Penal Code as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO).

The police will be now adding the sections of murder after the death of the girl. Deputy Commissioner of Police Namrata Patil said, "We are waiting for postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death. Based on the report, we will add relevant sections."
