Pulwama attack: Curfew in Jammu on, PDP office shut

Tension continued to simmer in both Kashmir and Jammu regions following the suicide bombing that left 42 CRPF men dead at Lethpora-Pulwama on Thursday.

Curfew remained in force for the third day in Jammu city after clashes and torching of vehicles at Gujjar Nagar on Friday. District administration has closed down all liquor shops in the city till further orders as a precautionary measure. All schools in Jammu district shall remain closed on Monday in view of the curfew. All examinations of Class 8 and 10 have also been postponed.

"Initially it was peaceful, but later it turned violent. We managed it in effective manner and imposed curfew. Yesterday and last night was peaceful. Curfew continues today as well. We request people not to venture out. Wine shops have been shut since yesterday," said Ramesh Kumar, district development commissioner of Jammu.

Sources said the police have registered 30 cases and scores of suspects have been either detained or arrested following the arson on Friday.

In addition, leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were not allowed to enter or come out of their office following the curfew and law and order situation in the city.

"PDP president Mehbooba Mufti was to visit the office today. However our leaders were not allowed either to come out or enter the office," said a party spokesperson.

PDP took out a peace march in Srinagar, urging the Centre to ensure safety of Kashmiris staying at different states across the country.
