In wake of rising tension after Pulwama terror attack that 40 CRPF jawans, Pakistan authorities on Friday started crackdown on terrorist Masood Azhar's banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad. The development comes a day after banning another terrorist outfit, Hafiz Saeed-led Jamaat-ud Dawa (JuD) and its charity arm, the Falah-i-Insaniyat Foundation (FIF).

After terror attack in Pulwama and terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad's claim of carrying out attack, Pakistan stated they had banned this organisation in 2002.

In Islamabad, Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior of Pakistan government said the Punjab government has taken over the control of a campus comprising Madressatul Sabir and Jama-e-Masjid Subhanallah in Bahawalpur, reportedly the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammad and appointed an administrator to manage its affairs.

The spokesman said the action was taken in line with the decision of the National Security Committee meeting held on Friday under their chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

"The campus has a faculty of 70 teachers and currently 600 students were studying in it. The Punjab police is providing security and protection to the campus," the spokesperson has stated.

On Thursday, Pakistan reimposed ban on the Saeed-led Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) and its charity arm, the Falah-i-Insaniyat Foundation (FIF).

In February last year, former president Mamnoon Hussain had promulgated an ordinance amending the Anti-Terrorism Act with regards to proscription of terrorist individuals and organisations to include entities listed by the UN Security Council.

The move had resulted in the declaration of JuD and FIF as proscribed groups.

However, the two Hafiz Saeed-linked organisations had slipped off the national list of proscribed organisations after the presidential ordinance lapsed. This time, the two organisations have been notified as proscribed organisations by the Imran Khan-led government.

The JuD is the front organisation for the Lashkar-e-Taiba or LeT, which is responsible for carrying out the Mumbai terror attack that killed 166 people. It has been declared as a foreign terrorist organisation by the US in June 2014.

The US Department of the Treasury has designated Hafiz Saeed as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, and the United States, since 2012, has offered a USD 10 million reward for information that brings Hafiz Saeed to justice.

Hafiz Saeed was listed under UN Security Council Resolution 1267 in December 2008. He was released from house arrest in Pakistan in November 2017.

Pakistan's move comes amid mounting global pressure to act against the terrorist outfits operating from its soil and areas under its occupation.
