At least six people were injured in clashes between youths and security forces as protests over the attack on separatist leader Fazal Haq Qureshi continued in Kashmir valley for the second straight day today.

Chanting slogans, protesters took to the streets at many places in summer capital Srinagar and pelted stones at police and para-military forces.

Denouncing the attack on Qureshi, who is in critical condition, they staged demonstrations at Maisuma, Kawdara, Rajouri Kadal and Saraf Kadal in the city.

Six people were injured in the clashes sparked by rumours that the moderate Hurriyat leader had lost the battle for life, police said.

Qureshi was shot at by militants of Al-Nasreen outfit outside a mosque here on Friday evening in what is seen as an attempt to sabotage the talks on resolving the Kashmir issue.

Al-Nasreen is believed to be a front of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
