Attorney General KK Venugopal told the Supreme Court that there are chances government and the agitating farmers' leaders will come to an agreement.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Wednesday (January 6) expressed hope that the protesting farmer unions will understand the idea behind bringing laws for reforms in the agricultural sector. He also reiterated the fact that they would actively arrive at a solution after discussion.
Tomar told reporters, "We're committed to the welfare of farmers. We meet those who're supporting the laws and those opposing it. I am sure that farmers' unions who are agitating will think about the welfare of farmers and actively arrive at a solution."
After the seventh round of talks with the Centre failed, the farmer unions on Tuesday hinted at intensifying their protest against contentious agriculture laws. The protesting farmers have threatened to hold 'Tractor Kisan Parade' that on January 26 (Republic Day) if their demands are not met.
The farmer unions also said that they would boycott the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies in National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Swaraj India's Yogendra Yadav, while speaking to the media said that farmers will take out a 'tractor march' from all protest sites to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) highway on January 7.

A Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and two other judges were hearing petitions against the passage of these bills during the monsoon session last year. The top court urged both the parties to hold discussions and hoped that they could reach an amicable solution.
Farmers have been protesting at the Delhi borders since November 26 last year, against the newly enacted farm laws - Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance, and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
