NEW DELHI: The IITs can retain the best talents at their faculty only by introducing some global element and providing them a proper environment to work, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman M S Ahluwalia has said.

Delivering IIT Kharagpur Foundation Day lecture on 'Sustainability of IIT Education System and How IIT can contribute towards Economic Growth of the Nation' at IIT Delhi here on Saturday, Ahluwalia said the major challenge before the premier IITs is to retain the best talents at faculty in view of changing circumstances in the field of education.

The only way to retain them is to provide them a proper environment to work, Ahluwalia said.
   
Giving the example of China, he said the institutes have also to introduce some elements of global faculty in order to train the students from the best available talents in the world.

Ahluwalia said that the government was well aware to face the major challenges in higher education.
