Meghalaya Speaker Abu Taher Mondal today admitted a privilege motion against the editor of a leading daily here and referred the matter to the Privilege Committee for examination and investigation.

Opposition Independent member John Leslee K Sangma moved the privilege motion against the woman editor in connection with her March 17 article in the daily in which she criticised and ridiculed the issues raised by the MLAs during the budget session.

"The article publish by her has breached the privilege of the House and also breached the privilege of the members," John said while moving the motion.

The article contained statements which hinted that the issues being debated were were not on public interest, he said adding it ridiculed publicly the issues raised and tried to create an opinion to lower the prestige of the House and all its members.

Admitting the motion, the Speaker referred the complaint to the Committee of Privileges for examination and investigation.
