Over 1,000 convicts serving their terms in the Central Jail here staged a symbolic dawn-to-dusk fast demanding their release on the occasion of "Gandhi Jayanthi" today, a top police official said."About 1,200 convicted prisoners, including women, undertook a symbolic dawn to dusk fast for their release on the basis of their good conduct on this auspicious occasion celebrated by the whole nation", DIG Prisons MC Vishwanathaiah told PTI.Citing the example remission granted to prisoners in other states on the basis of their good conduct on such occasions, the prisoners appealed to the government to release them.
