Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on his first visit to the financial capital Mumbai after taking a charge of the country's topmost position, arrived in the city on Monday.

He was welcomed by Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan, Chief Minsiter Prithviraj Chavan and Mumbai mayor Sunil Prabhu.

Modi will be visiting the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), where he is likely to be briefed on the development of the Indian Pressurised Water Reactor, large scale accelerators, Indian Neutrino Observatory and large size nuclear recycle plants during his visit, a state government official said. The PM will interact with the scientists of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and BARC during his visit.

Spokesperson of the BJP Madhav Bhandari said there is no other official programme of the BJP scheduled in Mumbai. Sources said the BARC event would not be open to the media.
