In his message on Sunday, Mukherjee said: "On the occasion of Baisakhi, I convey my warmest felicitations and good wishes to all people of our country and, in particular, to all my brothers and sisters engaged in cultivation and farming."

"It is a time of celebration and an occasion when we express our gratitude to the almighty for the bountiful harvest and pray for continued prosperity in the times to come. May this festival reinforce the ties that bind us together as a nation, in peace and harmony.

"Let us, on this day, strengthen our resolve to contribute whole-heartedly to the nation's progress and happiness," the president said.

Baisakhi marks the beginning of the harvest season and is celebrated across northern India, especially in the Punjab region.
