Gujarat Congress has alleged that despite spending lakhs of rupees on annual Praveshotsava, the state government has failed to improve the enrolment ratio of students in primary education.

Gujarat Pradesh Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi on Friday said that Praveshotsava, a state government initiative to enroll the maximum number of students for primary education, has been unsuccessful in achieving its objectives. 

The enrollment initiative was launched in 2003 by the government to motivate eligible children to enlist for 1st standard. According to state education department website, 6,62,682 students had enrolled for standard 1 in the first year of Praveshotsava, whereas 6,67,913 children secured admission in the same standard in 2009-10 under the drive.
