Discom snaps supply for 8 hrs to carry out maintenance work.
With power crisis aggravating, the Jaipur Discom has started resorting to power cuts in the name of maintenance of transformers etc in the city. On Wednesday, the discom stopped power supply to over 80 colonies from 10 am to 6 pm.
The affected colonies included Shastri Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, Loha Mandi area, Moti Doongri, Walled City, Jhotwara, some parts of Khatipura etc. Throughout the day, the discom’s call centre kept getting complaints regarding power cuts.
Residents of Shastri Nagar said that they were witnessing power cuts since Monday. On Monday night too, there are no power supply for two hours in Shastri Nagar.
Discom officials said that these cuts were necessary to undertake ‘pre-Diwali maintenance work’.
To recall, in the month of June also, the discom had resorted to power cuts saying that it was undertaking ‘pre-monsoon maintenance work’. The current maintenance work raises a question - was the maintenance work carried out in June not sufficient?
Notably, in the last few months, power cuts have become a regular feature across the city for the sole reason that power stations are unable to take the excess load and lack circuit-breakers because of which the transformers are developing snags and catching fire.
