NEW DELHI: In the wake of Mumbai terror attacks, the government has decided to further strengthen the security of the Parliament through measures like installation of state-of-the-art CCTVs at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore.

"It has been decided to replace certain security equipment in the parliament complex including CCTVs with new state-of-the-art gadgets at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crores," a member of the committee said.

Besides, there is a proposal to import sophisticated equipment like body scanner, surveillance system and luggage scanners, he said.

The committee headed by deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal had met last week to take stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, an expert committee on security is likely to visit US, Israel, Germany and England soon for purchasing the sophisticated security gadgets.

"A decision is to be taken for allowing experts on parliament security to travel abroad for purchasing hi-tech security equipment. These equipment are required for making full-proof security arrangement in parliament," said a senior official in the highest legislative body of the country.

The expert committee has suggested body scanners, latest surveillance system, luggage scanners and other state-of-the-art security gadgets for upgrading security system in the supreme legislative body.

Since all these machineries are to be imported, the committee has sought details from manufacturers about the equipment. There were about 35 foreign manufacturers, who had made a presentation to the committee on the gadgets.
