Rival parties contesting the Ayodhya dispute case in the court, as well as political parties across the divide, welcomed the Supreme Court verdict, expecting it will now lead to early adjudication of the decades-old case.

While the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) described it a positive movement, as it believed the hearing will not be done on the basis of faith, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) leaders expressed hope that early adjudication will help construction of the Ram temple before next year.

The apex court declined to refer to a five-judge constitution bench the issue of reconsideration of its 1994 observation that the mosque is not integral to Islam.

Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said her party had always looked at the court for the final adjudication of the case.

Senior AIMPLB member Zafaryab Jilani said that they honour the court order and see some positive movement regarding the Ayodhya case. "Two positive things have come from this verdict. First, the Ayodhya matter will not be heard on the basis of faith and will be heard as a title suit, Second, the 1994 observation by court will not make an impact on the case," he said. He also hoped that the final hearing of the Ayodhya case will be completed soon.

He pleaded that the Ayodhya hearing should not be linked with the elections.

Describing the apex court's decision as historic, BJP former Member of Parliament Vinay Katiyar expressed hope that the Ram temple would be built before next year. "The fight is over 80/40 square feet of land. I hope we will be victorious in the title suit," he added.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also said it is for the country's benefit that the Ayodhya issue is resolved quickly. "We appeal that this matter is resolved as soon as possible," Adityanath said.

Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said the SC cleared the way for him to press for the fundamental right to allow him to pray at the site. Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi charged the BJP of using Lord Ram only as election mascot and then forgetting about him once assuming power. "Out of the past 20 years, the BJP has ruled for 9 years. They must reply what they did for Lord Ram," she said. She also defended her party president Rahul Gandhi visiting temples and Kailash Mansorvar, questioning why it has rattled the BJP.

The head priest of the makeshift Ram temple in Ayodhya, Acharya Satyendra Das expressed dissatisfaction over Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government's failure to intervene in the issue for the last four years.

"There is no hope from the central government. For the last four years, no discussion took place over the issue. When the court had said that you will have to mutually resolve the issue, the government did nothing. They just did politics over the matter. The issue should be solved as soon as possible," Das said.
