Two Cuttack police officers facing contempt charges for alleged misbehaviour with a sitting judge of the Orissa high court have been held guilty, but awarded no punishment.
Instead, they would be under the surveillance of the high court for the next two years and in the event of any misconduct committed by them during the period, they would face severe penalty, the court warned yesterday.
A high court division bench of Justice BP Das and Justice Sanju Panda asked them to submit personal bonds before the judicial registrar of the high court.
Former inspector of Madhupatna police station AK Pahi and Badambadi police outpost officer Ranjan Kumar Naik were placed under suspension by the state government in August, this year for ill-treating a judge of the high court.
The duo, while on patrol duty at Badambadi bus terminus on August 22, had allegedly behaved badly with the judge who was returning home from Bhubaneswar with his wife in his private car.
Facing contempt charges in the court, the two police officers were suspended by the government after an adverse report was received from the city DCP over their conduct on the day.
