Five weeks after his coronary bypass surgery, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday, visited AIIMS to undergo tests as part of a planned post-operative assessment and his preliminary results were "quite satisfactory."

The prime minister went to AIIMS "to undergo tests as part of a planned post-operative assessment. Preliminary test results are quite satisfactory," a PMO spokesperson said.

Dr Sampath Kumar, chief of Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Sciences Department at the hospital, said, "The prime minister had come to AIIMS for a chest X-ray. He came at about 12:15 in the afternoon and left in 15 minutes."

76-year-old Singh, who had undergone a 'redo' coronary artery bypass surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on January 24 to remove five blockages, had recently suffered from a bout of common cold and slight fever.

According to doctors attending on him, the prime minister has been making steady progress.

Doctors had removed all his stitches on February 8, seven days after he was discharged from the hospital.
