Days ahead of Diwali, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday handed over 30 development projects to his constituency Varanasi via video conferencing. The total cost of these projects is Rs 614 crore.
In his address through video conferencing, PM Modi said that Varanasi is moving fast on the path of development and it never stopped getting Mahadev's blessings. Kashi continued to advance even during the difficult times of coronavirus, he said.
"The vitality with which Varanasi fought against coronavirus and has shown social solidarity in this difficult time is commendable. Even today, with the launch of 16 schemes worth about Rs 220 crore, work has started on 14 schemes of around Rs 400 crore. The people of Varanasi are getting the benefit of the decisions taken by the government for the development work being done in Varanasi. Baba Vishwanath's blessing is behind all this happening," PM Modi said.
"This effort regarding mother Ganga, this commitment is also the resolve of Varanasi and the path of new possibilities for it. Gradually, the picture of the ghats here is changing. Along with the cleanliness and beautification of the Ganga Ghats, Sarnath is also getting a new look. In this development plan of the city and countryside of Banaras, along with tourism, the focus should also be culture and roads, electricity, water. It is always the effort that development moves forward according to the feelings of every person of Kashi," he added.
The PM said that with improving connectivity, the number of people visiting the place is also rising.
"Today, there are 48 daily flights to Varanasi. With improving connectivty, the number of people visiting the place is also rising. A tourist plaza at the Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi will facilitate the tourists," he said.
The exhaustive list of projects to be inaugurated includes Sarnath Light and Sound Show, upgradation of Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital Ramnagar, sewerage-related works, infrastructure facilities for protection and conservation of cows, multipurpose seed storehouse, agriculture produce warehouse of 100 MT, IPDS phase 2, a housing complex for players in Sampurnanand Stadium, Varanasi city smart lighting work, along with 105 Anganwadi Kendras and 102 Gau Ashray Kendras.
