Prime Minister Narendra Modi today once again laid stress on the need for a 'Clean India' by saying that he wants to achieve that goal by 2019 as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.

"I have come to Japan earlier as well and met with the Indian diaspora. If you go anywhere in the world, two or three things are narrated by the expatriates like there being clean toilets elsewhere…that is why, in this regard, the biggest mission undertaken by me is of 'Clean India'. Though it is difficult, but somebody has to begin working towards it," the Prime Minister said at an Indian community reception. "In 2019, we will celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, and he never compromised on cleanliness. As a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, I want to accomplish the mission of 'Clean India'," he added.

The Prime Minister stated how the Indian community has rarely been a cause of problem anywhere in the world where it has settled. "There has been not a single complaint received about the Indian society around the world; those who had migrated from India 100-150 years ago, this is not a small thing. Internationally Indians are praised as law-abiding citizens and contribute towards the economy," Prime Minister Modi added.

Reminiscing about his trip to Taiwan where one interpreter had asked him some questions about India, the Prime Minister said, " Long years ago, I had visited Taiwan, the government there appointed an interpreter for me, initially he maintained protocol, but after five-six days towards the end, he asked me, is black magic still prevalent in India? Is it still the land of snake charmers?, and he used to believe that, this was our country's image."

"I told the interpreter, we aren't land of snake charmers anymore, earlier we used to play with snakes, now we play with 'mouse'. Now, with one move of our mouse, the entire world shakes, ," he added. He expressed his pride about the youth changing the perception about India, "Our youth aged 20-22-24 has changed the entire world in the sphere of information technology. The world's perspective has been changed about India, and we take pride about it," he further added.

He was happy about the huge Japanese investment that will happen. "Good decisions have happened with Japan. We (India-Japan) took several good decisions. First time 'trillion' word will be discussed a lot, 3.5 trillion Yen investment, a huge amount. In the coming days ahead Japan will invest in India," the Prime Minister said.
