Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to the county's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 125th birth anniversary and recalled Nehru's contribution in India's struggle for freedom.Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Today we mark the 125th birth anniversary of our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He further added, "We remember Pandit Nehru's efforts during the freedom struggle and his role as the first Prime Minister of India."

The government will launch a nationwide mission called Bal Swachhta Mission to mark the 125th birth anniversary of the country's first prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru.

The mission which will be launched by Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi will commence with a cleanliness drive that will be organized in schools across the country between 14th and 19th of this month.

A series of functions including lecture, debate and symposium on the issue will also be organized across the country.
