Amidst rising COVID-19 cases in the country, PM Narendra Modi has been chairing regular meetings to review the situation.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cancelled his visit to the poll-bound state of West Bengal on Friday. Instead, the Prime Minister will now chair high-level meetings on COVID-19 in New Delhi. In a tweet on Thursday, PM Modi said he will not be going to poll-bound West Bengal on Friday due to high-level meetings to review the prevailing COVID-19 situation.
The PM will review the COVID-19 situation in an internal meeting, interact with chief ministers of high burden states at 10 am via video conference and hold a meeting with leading oxygen manufacturers at 12.30 pm.
Amid the acute shortage of medical oxygen in many states, the PM on Thursday asked officials to take urgent steps to increase production, speed up distribution and use innovative methods to provide oxygen support to health facilities.
After taking stock of the production and supply situation, the Prime Minister directed officials to ensure that oxygen supply to states happened in a smooth, unhindered manner, the government said in a statement.
