In a freewheeling 'non-political' interview with actor Akshay Kumar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about everything — right from his weakness for aamras-puri to healthy living. Not to forget his 'close pals' in the Opposition.

The Prime Minister told the actor he is not attached to anyone in this world, except his mother. "I left my home at a very young age and was never very attached to my family," PM Modi said. He added that he had called his mother to stay with him in Delhi but he could not spend much time with her because of his hectic schedule. "Even my mother felt that because of my schedule it is not possible for me to spent time with her."

Friendly relationships

The PM mentioned that he has many "good friends" in the Opposition. He said that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee may be his harshest critic but she still sends him sweets and personally-selected kurtas. Even Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina sends sweets to me three-four times in a year especially from Dhaka. When Mamata didi got to know this, then she also sends sweets for me one or two times in a year," he added. "I have many good friends in the Opposition. We eat food together once or twice a year," the PM said.

Mamata has been openly critical about the PM over issues like the Goods and Services Tax and demonetisation move. She had called him "Hitler's uncle" and "expiry babu", while the PM has called her "speedbreaker Didi".

Favourite things…

When the actor asked PM Modi about his lifestyle and favourite food, the PM said he has simple tastes but does enjoy eating mangoes and aamras-puri sometimes.

Talking about his style, PM Modi said he preferred to wear half-sleeved kurta-pyjama and jacket as it is comfortable and easy to pack in his bag. The PM told the Bollywood heartthrob that he follows Twitter Kumar and his wife Twinkle Khanna on Twitter. "She vents her anger on the PM on the micro-blogging site. Hence, you are saved," the PM said.

PM Modi opened up about his "tough" childhood, saying heinstead of medication, he used other ways to deal with illness, like massage.

Taking a swipe at the PM, the Congress said he seemed like a "failed politician". Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said: "Akshay Kumar is a great actor; we like him. An unsuccessful politician who has decimated India's economy, made life hell for farmers and the poor, is now trying to become a better actor than Akshay."
