PM Modi's Cabinet reshuffle 2021: Meet 7 women in new council of ministers

Union Cabinet has a total of 11 women ministers, 7 new women ministers added as part of a major Cabinet reshuffle.

The cabinet reshuffle of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government took place on Wednesday (July 7). As many as 43 ministers, including new and old, took oath at the Rashtrapati Bhavan that was administered by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind. Overall, 36 new ministers have joined the cabinet this time, 7 old ministers have been promoted and 12 ministers have resigned.

 

Seven more women members have been added to the council of ministers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, taking the overall female strength to 11 which is one of the highest.

 

Seven new women ministers:

Karandlaje, Darshana Vikram Jardosh, Lekhi, Annapurna Devi, Pratima Bhoumik, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar, and Apna Dal's Anupriya Singh Patel were among the seven women who took oath as ministers of state. Nirmala Sitharaman (cabinet minister), Smriti Irani (cabinet minister), Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and Renuka Singh Saruta are already part of the Union council of ministers.

 

Anupriya Singh Patel (40):

Anupriya Singh Patel is serving her second term as a Lok Sabha MP for Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. She has been appointed MoS in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

She has also served as Union Minister of State for Health under PM Narendra Modi’s first term. The 40-year-old MP has also served as an MLA in Uttar Pradesh.

She has done MBA from Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur.

 

Sushri Shobha Karandlaje (54):

Shobha Karandlaje, is also serving second time as a Member of Parliament. She is a Loksabha MP from Karnataka's Udupi-Chikmagalur. Karandlaje has been given charge as MoS in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare.

 

She has served as a one-time MLA and one-time MLC. She has served for the Karnataka government, holding portfolios such as Power, Rural Development, and Food and Civil Supplies. She has done MA from Mangalore University.

 

Darshana Vikram Jardosh (60)

Darshana Vikram Jardosh serving third term as MP from Surat in Gujarat. She has been appointed as MoS in the Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Railways.

Before the Lok Sabha, Jardosh was a Corporator of the Surat Municipal Corporation and a member of the Gujarat Social Welfare Board. The Lok Sabha MP from Surat has done BCom.

 

Meenakshi Lekhi

Meenakshi Lekhi is serving her second term as Lok Sabha MP from Delhi. BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi is a Supreme Court lawyer. Lekhi has been given charge as MoS in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Culture.

She has also been a member of the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC. Has done LLB from Delhi University.

 

Annpurna Devi

Annpurna Devi is serving her 1st term as Lok Sabha MP for Kodarma in Jharkhand. Annpurna Devi has been appointed as MoS in the Ministry of Education

She has been a 4-time MLA from Jharkhand and Bihar. She has served as Cabinet Minister in Government of Jharkhand, holding portfolios like Irrigation, Women & Child Welfare, Registration.

 

The MP from Kodarma, Jharkhand has done MA from Ranchi University.

 

Sushri Pratima Bhoumik (52)

Sushri Pratima Bhoumik is serving as a first-term MP from Tripura West. Pratima Bhoumik has been given charge of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment as a Minister of State (MoS).

The Member of Parliament from Tripura West has a degree in BioScience from Tripura University.

 

Dr Bharati Pawar

Dr Bharati Pawar is a first-time Lok Sabha MP from Maharashtra's Dindori. She has been assigned to the Ministry of State under the Central government's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. She has also served as a member of the Nashik Zila Parishad. She has MBBS degree.
