PM Modi remembers Ravidas on anniversary

On the occasion of Ravidas Jayanti on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to admire the great poet-sant for his pure thoughts and ideals which "have a profound impact on society."

Having left a lasting impression on people during the Bhakti movement, 16th century saint Ravidas promoted the removal of social divisions of caste and gender, promoting unity in the pursuit of personal spiritual freedom.

"I bow to Guru Ravidas Ji on the special occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti," PM Modi tweeted, adding,"Guru Ravidas Ji emphasised values of harmony, equality and compassion, which are central to India's culture and ethos."

A spiritual figure, Ravidas is considered to be the founder of the 21st century Ravidassia religion. His devotional songs are included in the Sikh scripture, Guru Granth Sahib.
