Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti to commemorate World War-I centenary.Prime Minister Modi also signed the visitor's book here at Amar Jawan Jyoti.The commemoration is in memory of the 1.5 million Indian soldiers who fought in the war under British Empire and over 74,000 who made the supreme sacrifice, whose names are etched in stones on the walls of India Gate, the war memorial. Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, chiefs of three wings of defence forces and diplomatic representatives of 14 countries also paid their homage.

The period 2014 to 2018 is being commemorated as the Centenary of First World War. Earlier on Monday, President Pranab Mukherjee, Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, chiefs of three wings of defence forces and diplomatic representatives of 14 countries had also paid their homage.
