PM Narendra Modi on Saturday launched Pradhan Mantri Jivan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana, at an event in Kolkata also attended by Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

At the event, Modi unvieled the three social security schemes under the Jansuraksha Yojana. Two of them relate to insurance and one to pension.

In his speech, Modi said that 80-90% of people in India don't have insurance. "The poor do not want assistance, they want to be empowered. I am sure Rabindranath Tagore's blessings are with us", said Modi after unvieling a bust of Tagore.

The government has decided that no person will get a monthly pension of below Rs 1000, said Modi.

Adding that 15 crore bank accounts had been opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Modi claimed that West Bengal was one at the centre of economic development in India.

"CM Mamata Banerjee said there are no banks in villages here. I am confident our government can change that."
