Blowing the bugle for 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Maghar in Uttar Pradesh's Sant Kabir Nagar district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday set the agenda for the upcoming elections. Invoking Sant Kabir Das’ message for equality and inclusiveness, Modi attacked the opposition parties "opposed to peace and development and out to create instability and turmoil in the country to wrest power."

The Prime Minister began his speech in Bhojpuri, the local dialect, to connect with the people who came to attend his rally. His speech was punctuated with famous couplets of Sant Kabir Das, the 15th-century mystic saint, breathed his last and was buried at Maghar, about 30 kms away from Gorakhpur where the party faced by-poll debacle recently. Modi was the first Prime Minister who visited Maghar, also known as the ‘Gateway to Hell’.

Taking a dig at the Congress, Samajwadi Party, BSP and others, the Prime Minister said that “those who imposed the emergency and those opposed it are joining hands to grab the power not to serve the people of the country but for their own personal and political gains.”

“Those who claim to follow Sant Kabir Das are more worried about their big bungalow than to propagate his teachings of serving the people,” said Modi while hitting out at Akhilesh Yadav without taking his name.

“His government was busy decorating his own bungalow than extending benefits of our government’s scheme by constructing houses for the poor,” he said.

During his over half an hour speech, Modi sought to establish Sant Kabir Das among great personalities of India who tried to break the caste barriers and bridge the gap between Dalits, backwards and Muslims.

Modi said that Kabir never believed in caste or religion but always spread the message of equality, humanity, love and care.  “Sant Kabir Das and his teachings is the soul of India. We aim to take Kabir’s philosophy in serving the people of the country to shape up a New India,” he claimed while linking his government’s policy of ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’ with the poet's teachings.

He targeted opposition parties forming opportunistic alliances before Lok Sabha polls to grab power.

“Those who talk of Samajwad and Bahuajn Samaj are forming alliances only to wrest power by creating chaos and promoting inequality. They are cut off from ground realities. These politicians will never serve poor and weak. Beware of such power-hungry forces as they will only cause more damage to the nation building than before,” Modi warned.

Taking a jibe at the Congress, the PM said that they are trying their best to stall the bill on triple talaq, ignoring the plight of Muslim women. “They are now busy forming alliances with their own political rivals to re-establish one family’s rule in the country. Our government has done lot more in the last four years for the weak and poor than what they did in the last 40 years,” he claimed.

“The way Sant Kabir Das had broken myths about Maghar by spending his last days here, my government will remove all obstacles to develop India to reach a new height on the world map,” he added.

Earlier, the Prime Minister offered a chadar at Sant Kabir Das' Mazar and laid the foundation stone for setting up Rs 24 crore Kabir Academy. “I am only fulfilling the dream of then President APJ Abul Kalam who had come here once to establish Maghar on the International tourist map," he added.

Spread in 17 acres of land, Kabir Academy will have Picture Gallery, an Interpretation Centre, a Convention Centre with a seating capacity of 300 persons, a Library, Administrative Building, Hostel and quarters for employees. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will be the nodal agency to implement the project.

Speaking on the occasion, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the Modi government’s "sabka saath and sabka vikas" reflects in the ideology pursued by Sant Kabir Das. “The way Sant Kabir Das had raised his voice against conservative forces in the society, the Prime Minister broke caste and religion barriers to achieve an inclusive growth in the last four years,” the CM said.
