Addressing a poll rally in Karnataka's Kalaburagi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday took on the BJP's 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' campaign and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has turned the whole country into chowkidars (watchmen) after getting caught in the Rafale deal.
Gandhi has been repeatedly taking a jibe at PM Modi's declaration that he is the chowkidar of the country by instead using the phrase 'chowkidar chor hai' (the watchman himself is the thief) at his poll rallies. Gandhi has for months been accusing the PM of favouritism that led to irregularities in the Rafale deal. "You had all said that 'chowkidar chor hai'. But yesterday and the day before that, Narendra Modi attempted to turn the whole country into one of chowkidars," said Gandhi.
"When he became the Prime Minister, he said don't make me a PM, make me the chowkidar, do you remember? He never said that he will turn the whole country into one of chowkidars," said Gandhi.
Gandhi also said that on Modi's watch, Anil Ambani, Mehul Choksi, Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, and Vijay Mallya had looted the country, adding that on the day the Pulwama attack occurred, the chowkidar gave Gautam Adani "six airports of Hindustan".
Later, the Congress president also charged that the Prime Minister and RSS were attempting to scrap the Constitution. "It is Narendra Modi's wish that just as he scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes through demonetization, he wants to scrap the Constitution," Gandhi charged.
