The opposition may have slammed the Prime Minister (PM) Manmohan Singh for comparing, during his interaction with TV editors on Wednesday, 2G spectrum rates and government subsidies on fertilisers and food grain for the poor, but his party, Congress, appears to be cool about it.

“You should not take this comparison literally. He was only driving home the point of notional loss and making a case that subsidy offered to the poor cannot be categorised as revenue loss,” spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed said on Thursday.

He also asserted that the spectrum allocation policy was not aimed at revenue maximisation but at enhancing tele-density and bringing down call rates.
