Sufi Saint Imam Shahi Syed Mehendi Hussein alias Pirana Baba, who shot to fame by offering a skull cap to Chief Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s Sadbhavana fast in Ahmedabad, will campaign in the run-up to the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls to be held next month. He will campaign against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “The BJP has included Ram Mandir issue in its manifesto for the assembly elections, so I’m going to campaign against the saffron party,” said Pirana Baba.

He said that local leaders of Samajwadi Party (SP) contacted him and requested him to campaign for the party in the state.

“However, I am not going to ask people to vote for SP but certainly ask them not to vote for the BJP. I want a platform to give voice to my secular thoughts,” he said. Imam also said that he could not raise the issue in Gujarat due to autocracy of chief minister Narendra Modi.
