A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Bombay high court by the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) seeking directions for the appointment of an independent governance review committee to examine the rules and regulations of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The petition, filed by Aditya Verma, secretary of the CAB, contended that the rules and regulations of the BCCI have allegedly been tampered with in a manner to further advance their causes and also pointed to the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scandal.
The PIL also alleged that in recent times, BCCI had been used as a medium to serve the personal interest of a few people, including its former president N Srinivasan.
In April 2013, the special cell of the Delhi Police allegedly received confidential information that certain members of the underworld were involved in fixing of ongoing cricket matches of the IPL with active participation of some unidentified conduits based in Delhi, said the petition.
The Delhi police started investigating the allegations of betting and spot-fixing in IPL matches and it came to light that there was a cross-city bookie-player nexus involving starlets, four other top players and underworld connections. The PIL will come up for hearing in due course of time.
