Petrol and diesel prices in Uttarakhand turned dearer by Re 1 each after the state government rolled back then exemptions under Value Added Tax.    Official sources close to the development said the hike in prices applicable from midnight would generate Rs50 crore additional revenue to the state.     The government has taken this step to increase revenue generation and give some respite to the state's ailing financial situation.     However, in comparison to other states Uttarakhand still has lower rates for petrol and diesel.     Petrol will now cost Rs46.70 per litre, while diesel Rs35.51 per litre.
