Nagaland Minister for School Education, C M Chang while accepting that the performance of the government high schools (GHS) in the state has been not up to mark said that the government has decided to downgrade those schools with nil pass percentage in the final exams.
Talking to media-persons here yesterday, Chang acknowledged that the performance of government schools, specially in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations have been poor. In this connection, he said that the government has decided to downgrade those schools showing nil pass percentage in the board exams.
He also said that the government teachers would now be sent for regular trainings so that some improvements can be made in their performance.
On the shortfall of Mathematics and Science teachers in government schools, he said that it is because the local candidates are unable to fulfill the required qualification while there have been objections to accept non-local teachers. He therefore opined that there has to be relaxation in recruiting maths and science teachers so that the qualified non-local teachers can be accommodated.
Chang further said that he has already got the green signal from the Chief Minister, but the final approval is awaited.
