Suspected terrorists on Saturday shot dead a ruling Peoples Democratic Party worker at Ugjan village of Dialgam in South Kashmir's Anantnag district.

Police said two terrorists shot Mohammad Ishaq Parray near his house, causing him grievous wounds. He was immediately shifted to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police have registered a case and massive hunt has been launched to nab the assassins.

The incident occurred on the day when security forces launched massive cordon and search operation in more than nine villages of Shopian district. The operation was launched after forces received intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Security forces conducted door-to-door searches in the villages to look for any suspected militants. No arrests were made during the search operation.

Meanwhile, an altercation broke out between some army troops and cops at a Naka in Kupwara district. Police, however, played down the matter saying it was minor incident which was sorted out.
