Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday condoled the demise of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and said the departed leader built a political party and never tolerated compromise on patriotism.

Modi said Thackeray was a lively person who used to put in his best in a struggle and also showered affections in abundance. "He kept himself away from corridors of politics and built an entire political party. He never tolerated or compromised on patriotism," the chief minister said.

Modi said he had shared warm personal bond with Thackeray.
