Pakistani Rangers plead with BSF to stop its fire assault

A destructive assault by the Border Security Force (BSF) across the International Border (IB) in Jammu division forced Pakistani Rangers on Sunday to "plead for a ceasefire."

BSF destroyed Pakistani posts following its unprovoked firing and shelling on Indian posts and in civilian areas. Two BSF soldiers and four civilians have been killed along IB since May 15.

BSF also released a 19-second thermal imagery video that shows Pakistan's bunker being taken down in the assault. "For the last three days, BSF's precision fire on Pakistani firing locations has inflicted heavy loss to them", said a BSF spokesperson in Jammu.

Pakistan Rangers called up their counterpart in Jammu and urged for an immediate halt in firing. "The befitting reply by BSF units to unprovoked shelling and firing across IB by Pakistan forces has forced them to plead for a ceasefire," he said.

Official figures show 633 ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) and IB in Jammu and Kashmir in the first two months of 2018.

Of these, 432 incidents were reported along LoC and 201 along IB. Ten security personnel and 12 civilians were killed in these violations.

Last year, there were 860 violations along LoC and 111 incidents along IB. Twelve civilians were killed and 59 others injured in these incidents.

Six Army personnel and four BSF men were also killed, and 18 Army soldiers and 22 BSF jawans injured in these incidents. BSF is in the process of building a smart fence on IB to prevent infiltration.
