Pakistan will continue to raise Kashmir issue at international forums, says Shah Mahmood Qureshi

Frustrated after failing to internationalise Kashmir, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Islamabad will continue to highlight the issue at international forums. 

Pakistan has been trying to raise Kashmir issue at various forums including the United Nations but India has asserted that the abrogation of Article 370 was its ‘internal matter’.

Qureshi who spoke at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva last week, said the issue was subdued due to anniversary of September 11 attacks on New York's World Trade Center and India's successful attempt to link Kashmir with terrorism. 

"We have decided that we will raise this issue internationally again. This matter died down due to 9/11 anniversary and India cleverly linked it to terrorism. We want the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to review it," Qureshi said. 

"This was brought in the UNSC after 58 years. Even though atrocities were being committed but this matter could not be taken forward. But the matter is now on international level and this is raised the spirit od Kashmiris. Whatever India could do stop it, they did. China has acted like our advocate. We have worked as per our strategy," Qureshi said. 

Commenting on Supreme Court's decision to allow Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad to visit Kashmir, Qureshi said this was a good decision and all international media should also be allowed.
