"Pakistani troops fired at our positions on the LoC in Balakote sector without any provocation at 3 pm on Wednesday," the spokesman said.

"The firing continued for some time. The enemy used small arms to target our positions. Our troops retaliated effectively with same calibre weapons. No damage or casualty was caused to our troops," he said.

Balakote sector is in Poonch district.

Pakistan also fired at Indian positions at Kaman Post in Uri sector on January 26. Indian troops did not retaliate to the Pakistan firing that day as the country was celebrating its 65th Republic Day.

Pakistan also violated the ceasefire in Krishna Ghati-Mendhar sector in Poonch district on January 13 and 18.
