Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday asked the Pakistani government to 'take steps' at their end to stop future ceasefire violations.

"It is our neighbouring country and we want good relations with all our neighbours. I think, Pakistani government should take steps at their end to stop such violations in future," said Rajnath.

The Home Minister added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a 'message of unity' to his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif during his swearing-in ceremony last year.

Ceasefire violations: One woman dead, eight injured in Pakistan firing

"We repeatedly say the same thing over and again that Pakistan should not violate the ceasefire. With the formation of government here, our Prime Minister had given a message to the Pakistani Prime Minister while shaking hands that we are shaking hands with you, and hope to unite our hearts as well," he said.

"Even after that, Pakistan is violating the ceasefire repeatedly," Rajnath added.

Pakistani troops resorted to heavy mortar shelling and firing on several BSF posts last night along the Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba and Kathua districts. The shelling drew a strong retaliation from India and as per BSF sources, two Pakistani Rangers were killed in the exchange of fire.

The latest ceasefire violation was the fourth one by Pakistani Rangers in as many days and the eighth in the last nine days.
