Pakistan's local police chief said, after a Christian couple in Pakistan was beaten to death by an angry mob over blasphemy charges wherein they allegedly desecrated a Koran, that a criminal case has been filed against at least 460 people and 48 people have been arrested.

According to the New York Times, the local police chief Jawad Qamar also said that the couple was dead when the police arrived and their bodies were totally burned.

A local police station official Bin Yameen said that the incident of desecration of the holy Koran took place yesterday and today the mob beat the couple to death and set their bodies to fire.

A security official said that the local police had tried to save the couple but the mob attacking them was too big.

Since 1990s, many Christians have been found guilty of blasphemy or of desecrating the Koran.
