In less than six months this year, Pakistan has already violated the ceasefire more than 2000 times.

Defence Spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said on Saturday, "There have been more than 2000 incidents of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control by the Pakistani troops in less than six months in the year 2020."

He said that there were  114 instances of ceasefire violations in the first 10 days of June as compared to  181 and 14 instances of ceasefire violations in the whole month in 2019 and 2018 respectively.

"2020 figure for ceasefire violations is astonishing, in less than 6 months there have been more than 2000 violations. If we compare with past years, there weren't as many violations in the entire 2018.” Jammu-based Defence PRO said.

He said that the country has witnessed a huge spike in ceasefire violations since the abrogation of Article 370 by the Centre.

The year 2019 recorded the highest number of ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the previous 16 years when the ceasefire agreement in place since 2003 was breached as many as 3168 times, the government data revealed.

In 2018, the number of ceasefire violations was comparatively low at 1629. From January till June, the number of ceasefire violations has broken all records each month this year, the official figures said.

Despite the COVID-19 scare, there has been relentless terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

In one more successful anti-terror operation, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) police said that two terrorists have been killed in an encounter that broke between security forces and terrorists in the Nipora area of the Kulgam district in south Kashmir, earlier today.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar had earlier said “Encounter Started at the Nipora area of Kulgam. Police and security forces are on the job.”

As the joint team of forces cordoned the suspected house, the hiding terrorists who were trapped in that residential house fired upon the search party, that was retaliated and the encounter started. The official added that earlier hiding terrorists were given the full chance to surrender but they fired bullets.

It’s the fourth encounter in south Kashmir this week. Earlier, 14 terrorists including top Hizb commanders were killed in three separate encounters in the Shopian district. In the last week, security forces have killed 16 terrorists taking the toll to 95 this year.
