Pak foreign Office says not aware of India's demand on Hafiz Saeed

With India asking Pakistan to hand over JuD chief and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Mohd Saeed, the Pakistan Foreign Office here said today that it was not aware of any such demand from New Delhi."I don't think they have asked for Hafiz Saeed. I am not aware that they have asked for Hafiz Saeed to be handed over," Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said in response to a question during a weekly news briefing.His comments came despite India recently giving three dossiers to Pakistan containing names of 34 terrorists wanted by it, including Saeed, and demanding that they be handed over.    Saeed is also the founder of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), blamed by India for the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai. LeT's operations chief Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, who is among seven suspects arrested by Pakistan in connection with the Mumbai attacks, has been undergoing trial at an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi.     Asked if the recent killings of Indians and Pakistanis in Afghanistan were part of a "proxy war", Basit replied: "I would be reluctant to be drawn into this debate. I think it is too early, let us wait.""Our embassy in Kabul is in touch with Afghan authorities and it is important not to draw any conclusions at this early stage," Basit said.  He also dismissed claims about the Pakistan-based LeT being involved in a recent attack in Afghanistan that killed seven Indians."Afghanistan is our immediate brotherly neighbour and our bilateral relations have significantly improved over the past one year."We will never allow our territory to be used for carrying out terrorist acts in Afghanistan, or for that matter, anywhere in the world," Basit said.
