Padmaavat row: Suraj Pal Amu, who offered Rs 10 crore bounty to behead Deepika, sent to judicial custody till Jan 29

A Gurugram court on Friday sent  Suraj Pal Amu to judicial custody till January 29 for his statements against the film 'Padmaavat'.
Yesterday, Amu was taken into preventive detention.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East Gurugram, Kuldeep Singh said, "His arrest is preventive to maintain law and order in the state."

The Supreme Court is also hearing a plea filed against Amu for protesting against the film.
The BJP leader is infamous for offering Rs 10 crore bounty for beheading actress Deepika Padukone and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in November 2017 for allegedly distorting historical facts and showing Queen Padmini in a bad light in the film. 

The former Haryana BJP leader Suraj Pal Amu, who threatened Deepika Padukone for her role in Padmavati and its director Sanjay Leela Bhansali,  resigned from the party's state Chief Media Coordinator post.

He has been up and arms against the release of Bollywood film and had hit the headlines for offering Rs 10 crore for anyone who beheads Deepika and Bhansali.

The Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus has been embroiled into controversy since its inception.

Various Hindu and Rajput fringe outfits have raised objections over the epic drama alleging that Bhansali has distorted the history.

However, the Supreme Court has given a green signal to the film.

The fringe groups including Karni Sena has gone on a rampage and vandalized cinema halls of various states for screening the movie
