THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Over 4,900 cases of missing women were registered in the various police stations in Kerala in the past two years, state home minister on Tuesday informed the Kerala Assembly.

State Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, in a reply to a question by lawmaker K.K. Shailaja, said that of the 4,942 cases of missing women, 4,487 women were traced.

Shailaja said that of late there has been an increase in women being exploited and being forced into sex rackets.

"This is reaching dangerous levels," said Shailaja.
