Needless to say that the SP leaders did not take kindly to Amit Shah's jibe. "Since he has become BJP's UP incharge, he is constantly trying to divide people in the state," SP leader Akhilesh Yadav stated. "He had just apologised, now again he makes such comments," he added.

The statement also received severe condemnation from Congress, who termed it as an attempt to polarise the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. "Amit Shah was reprimanded by EC for such comments. He had apologised, but now he is at it again," said Congress leader Rashid Alvi.

Rajya Sabha MP Shahid Siddiqui added, "It's an insult of the Muslims and Hindus of Azamgarh."

Calling for action against Shah, Maulana Khalid Rashid, said, "It is very sad that Amit Shah is generalising whole of Azamgarh by calling it a hub of terror. EC must take note."

BSP chief Mayawati strongly condemned the Shah and then calling BJP's candidate Ramakant Yadav "the biggest terrorist of Azamgarh". "I threw Ramakant Yadav out of BSP and got him arrested. His terror is all over Azamgarh,BJP now finds nothing wrong in him."

She too called EC intervention, "Such comments violate EC code. It can also disturb law and order in eastern UP. Shah should again be banned."

BSP leader Sudhindra Bhadoria agreed, "Amit Shah has insulted the whole country by his Azamgarh comment. Thier frustration clearly showing."

Digvijay Singh, too, attacked Shah on Twitter:

Campaigning for BJP's Azamgarh candidate, Ramakant Yadav who is taking on SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, Shah said the number of terrorists from here was high as the state government was advocating their release in many cases connected to them. "Azamgarh is the base of terrorists as there is no fear of the government, which is advocating their release," the BJP in-charge for Uttar Pradesh said. "The accused in Gujarat bomb blasts are from Azamgarh.

Only recently, Shah had been pulled by the Elections Commission for making a hate speech.

Although, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy came out in the support Shah, "Nothing wrong in what Amit Shah said. Future Govt will have to make efforts to cleanse Azamgarh of terror," he said.
