Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday condemned the strikes by the Indian Army and said that their intent for peaceful neighbourhood should not be mistaken as their weakness.

Sharif's reaction comes after the statement by the DGMO Lt Gen Ranbir Singh at a hurriedly called news conference at which External affairs ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup was also present. The DGMO informed the media about the action taken by the army to target terrorists.

Strongly condemning the 'unprovoked and naked aggression' by India along the LoC, Sharif said that Pakistan's armed forces were fully capable of defending the territorial integrity of the country. Sharif also warned that Pakistan's intent for peaceful neighbourhood should not be mistaken as its weakness, Radio Pakistan reported. He said that Pakistan can thwart any "evil design" to undermine its sovereignty.

Meanwhile, Pakistan military said that two of its soldiers were killed in a ceasefire violation by India along the LoC on Thursday.

Gen Singh said India had shared details of the surgical strikes with the Pakistan army which followed "very specific information" that terrorists were positioning themselves in the launch pads along the LoC.

Details of the duration of the surgical strikes or when and where it was conducted were not revealed.
