Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari said that the government's submission to the court concreals more than it reveals. He asked if the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) and the contract to purchase 36 Rafale aircrafts were two separate processes. "Then how is it that on April 10, 2015 when PM Modi went to France, did the Government arrive at the decision to purchase 36 jets when the formal decision to terminate the MMRCA process was taken only in June 2015," he said.

He also asked if the Air Force was on board with this decision, and if yes, when were the Standard Qualitative Requirements (SQR) initiated. "Also, why was HAL cut out of the process at the last moment," he said.

CPIM leader Sitaram Yechury tweeted saying: "Modi govt has resorted to a web of lies to hide the corruption in Rafale scam. Cronies of all kinds, from France to here in India, are out trying to defend the indefensible. But their lies have all been nailed (sic)."

Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said in a blog that Trappier was making the issue murkier. "I think that there is corruption at the highest level in our country. I would advise the CEO of Dassault not to muddy the waters any further. Because remember, howsoever high you may be, the law is always above you," he wrote.
