Giving a thumbs up to the Narendra Modi-led BJP government on the eve of its first anniversary, RSS on Sunday said the people are confident about its intent even though the task of fulfilling their expectations remains gigantic.
RSS mouthpiece 'Organiser', in its editorial, said the scale of the BJP's victory in the last general elections was such that "at the end of the year itself the government is being scrutinised for the delivery parameters meant for five years". It said, "Considering the nature of unprecedented expectations from the present government, the appraisal is bound to be on harsh parameters."
The editorial, while citing a survey conducted by it to gauge the national mood ahead of the government's first anniversary, said, "People who have voted the government are still upbeat about the turnarounds that are taking place in the national life, despite enigmatic antagonism created by intellectual and political opposition." The editorial titled, 'A year of turnarounds', also has a word of caution for the government, saying the task of "filling up holes and fulfilling public expectations remains gigantic".
It said, "The path of ensuring complete agenda of five years is not smooth. Political management in Rajya Sabha, imbibing ethical work culture and changing the mindset of freebies will have to be addressed slowly but surely." "Giving Indian face to development with entrenched vested interests is a daunting task. The initiatives taken by the Modi government will take some time to percolate; there may be issues of perception management and bureaucratic hurdles; not only political, but stiff opposition by intellectuals who were at the centre of Delhi's power corridor will continue with their methods of creating confusions," it said.
The RSS, citing the survey results, said turnarounds in BJP'S first year have broadly taken place on the economic front, foreign policy and security front and on the level of national psychology and ideology. "Terrorists and insurgents, neighbours or big powers who had perceived India to be meek in recent years are thinking twice before snubbing India," the editorial said, adding that the values of integrity and transparency in governance in this government are visible "right from top".
