On 96th anniversary of Jallianwala Bagh massacre, politicos remember martyrs

Leaders across the political spectrum on Monday paid their respects to the martyrs of Jallianwalla Bagh, on the 96th anniversary of the tragedy.Prime Minister Modi tweeted his message in Hindi, and also posting a picture of him paying his respects at the site earlier this year, calling the people who lost their lives 'true patriots'.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley referred to their martyrdom as a 'supreme sacrifice'.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she 'bows her head' to the martyrs.
Meanwhile, the official twitter page of the Congress party wrote that the people who had lost their lives on the day were 'mercilessly massacred' by British forces.
On April 13, 1919, nonviolent protesters at the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, who were protesting against the arrest of two leaders, were shot at by the army on the orders of Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer. Official figures state that 501 people were killed that day, with thousands injured.
